OUR STORY
Ten years ago, three friends with different backgrounds and a common love of Mexican culture and agave spirits met in Sayulita, Mexico. Over the next few years, Salvador Alvarez, originally from Michoacán, and Eder Raygoza, originally from Mexico City, brought their American friend Mark Kassen through the hills and valleys of Mexico, sharing their boyhood memories, traditions, and cuisine. With each bite of food, they recounted stories from around the kitchen table as children. With each sip of an agave spirit, an education into the region and history of where it was made. That journey eventually brought them to the region of San Sebastián del Oeste where they met a master of the agave arts, Eduardo Sánchez Enriquez. For generations, Eduardo’s family had fused an organic process of taking hand-harvested local agave plants with a refined method of roasting them in handmade clay ovens, over wood and volcanic rock… creating the beautiful agave spirit raicilla.
There’s a Mexico that few take the opportunity to experience. A rich and diverse historical culture that varies by region. For us, Brilla Luna is a monument to this culture and an opportunity to experience its beautiful history.
Be it our handmade bottles made from recycled glass in Guadalajara or the local community in the mountains of Jalisco that has joined us on this journey, it is important to all of us at Brilla Luna that every aspect of our raicilla honors the community and the people that bring this artisan spirit to life.
